Marcus Ehning

  (GER) International Showjumper

Marcus started riding at the age of seven and it was evident that Marcus would be an ambitious rider from the beginning.
It was with a pony called “Starlight” that lead to Marcus’ first international success and helped him win the Gold Medal in the European Championships in both 1990/91. With “Starlight” and “Queen” he triumphed in several medium level shows . He finally won the German Championships in 1991 with his third pony “Bright Ruby.”

At the age of sixteen, Marcus changed from riding ponies to adult horses. During this time “Orchidee“, “Opium“ and “Talan“ were his most important horses. With these three horses, Marcus won the Gold Medal in the European Championships four times in the five year period of his junior and young rider time.
With the arrival of “For Pleasure” at the Ehning’s barn close to Christmas in 1998, the real success story started. “For Pleasure’s” previous career with rider Lars Nieberg is surely still in everybodies memory. His enourmous jumping talent, vibrant presence and wonderful character made the Hanovarian stallion an extraordinary horse.

Renowned for his incredibly quiet riding style, Marcus has ridden horses such as Plot Blue, Cornado NRW, Comme Il Faut and Sabrina to top level. He is a German Nation’s Cup team regular and has won the FEI World Cup Finals on three occasions with three different horses. He is three times World Cup Champion, has team gold medals from the Olympics, World Equestrian Games and the Europeans – and his list of Grand Prix wins goes on and on.

Great results continue, with successive top placings at both national and international events.

“My biggest motivation is not the big shows, it’s not the winning; my biggest motivation is the relationship with the horses. I love working with them, competing with them and growing with them. To build a partnership with a horse, see how it evolves and develops and be on a journey with them is such an incredible feeling.” (equilifeworld.com, 22 Aug 2018)
